Honors and Awards: In 1999, he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus by the university's alumni association.


Affiliations: After serving in the Air Force, he founded and served as chairman and president of a number of successful companies, including Precision Tune Inc., now Precision Tune Auto Care Inc., a publicly traded company with franchised and company-owned centers internationally.

Other companies founded by Mr. Childs include Texas Industrial Maintenance Inc., Texas Industrial Chemicals Inc., Econo Oil Co. Inc., PAC Manufacturing and Distributing Co. Inc., Mustang Manufacturing Inc., Precision Tune Real Estate Inc. and C-Fin Corp. Mr. Childs has also served his alma mater on the boards of its foundation, alumni association and College of Business Board of Advisors.


Known for: Mr. Childs built Precision Tune Auto Care from his first operation housed in an abandoned Beaumont gas station in 1975 into the largest specialty tune-up chain in the country. In 1987, the business recorded 3 million customers, and he sold the company to East Coast investors who later took it public.
