III. Updates from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Administration (ORSPA):

Dr. Jerry Lin - Associate Provost for Research:

I have two primary goals for the upcoming calendar year.

  1. We will establish clear policies and procedures moving into the next year.
  2. We will meet a few times during the year.

Emily Born, Compliance Officer: S&T Updates

IV. LU IBC Policies and Procedures

Updated IBC Committee Policies and Procedures Discussion

Jerry Lin: I will work on revising the policies and procedures and send them to you to look over and then we will review them in April 2021.

V. CITI Certification for Board Members

Emily Born: Just a reminder, if not completed previously, Board Members need to complete the “IBC Member Training” CITI Course.

Gary Rash: I would like for those who complete this course to renew every year.

Emily Born: CITI currently has it set for every 3 years for renewal, but I will reach out to them and see if we can change this to one year.

Jerry Lin: I am in favor of the one-year annual renewal as well. I think it is important for our members and Lamar Community to be educated on this matter.

Maryam Vasefi: Will this CITI course will be required for anyone who will be working with a biohazard to take these training course, correct?

Gary Rash: Yes, anyone working with a biohazard needs to take this course.

Jerry Lin: my recommendation is the following, anyone who has access to the labs needs to take these courses. Faculty members will be our first stop in communicating this across the campus environment.

Emily Born: There are two different courses, biosafety for this committee and there is also a lab safety course as well and that could be used for environmental health and safety. We have established anyone that needs card access for S&T takes the lab safety course.

VI. Other Business Items

Follow up conversation took place regarding the requirement of a community member for this committee. Jerry Lin expressed he would look for a community member.

VII. Next meeting: April, 2021 unless we have protocol which requires voting. We will meet a minimum of every 6 months.
