PARKING ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

June 13, 2019

Welcome and opening remarks: Diane Drawhorn   

 

The Parking Advisory Committee will be the eyes and ears for all things regarding parking lots and parking on campus.  Committee will be providing recommendations for improvement of parking on campus. Committee will be making decisions on parking violations and policy.

OLD BUSINESS:

 

  • Signage: Meeting with Kate Downing and Katherine Miller report. Katherine has responded to the Marketing Department with some suggested changes.

 

  • Committee was asked to assist in prioritizing parking lots that need the most attention for repair and replacement.

 

A spreadsheet with the inventory of all parking lots was distributed at the last meeting. 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

  • Parking violation appeals process.

Hand out the APRIL APPEALS and asked to return them to Diane Drawhorn’s 0ffice on or before APRIL 24, 2019.

 

  • LiveSafe Tip

There has been an anonymous tip via LiveSafe regarding issues of speeding and going the wrong way in the Senior (C-1 Lot)  A suggestion was made to post speed limit signs (see Regulations VI. B. 1. Maximum speed in parking lots is 10 mph unless otherwise posted), install speed bumps in each row, Crosswalk Signs and have arrows showing the flow of traffic.

 

Mr. Ness VP F&0, has directed the facilities and parking office to proceed with refreshing the painted directional arrows on the parking lot. No crosswalk signs will be installed since there aren’t any designated crosswalks and no speed bumps will be installed.

  • Special request for PARKING ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO RULE ON PARKING CITATION APPEAL. See attached email on page 4 regarding ticket #G8582.

 

  • Update striping that is underway.

 

  • Poll Committee regarding the attached Webinar (see pages 5-7) available June 19th from 2-2:30 “Transportation & Traffic Policies for Pedestrians, Drivers & Electric/Motorized Device Operators…”

 

  • Discussion on clarifying designated University Service Vehicles Only with a specific color to paint the surface area and curbs. Suggestion of color such as “Lime Green” or other color ________________.

 

  • Open comments from the committee members.

 

Updates from last month’s meeting:

 

At the last meeting…Mark Broome brought up that he noticed a lot of the appeals deal with students who were cited for parking in the C-1 Senior Student Lot.  Discussion was open to the committee and it was suggested that Diane Drawhorn send out a communication via Black Board to all students reminding them that they cannot park in the C-1 lot between the hours of 7:00 AM to 12:00 Noon unless they are a senior with 105 hours. 

 

Lt. Brent Sonnier made an inspection of C-1 and it was determined to cease issuing citations in reserved spaces due to the quality of the designated signage painted on the lot spaces.  As soon as the signs are renewed citations will be reinstated.

 

Chief Flores discussed the possibility of removing the iron post gates and removing them on the roads that access Gentry and Morris Halls along with the entry roads to Monroe and Campbell.  Chief Flores said he considered the roads to Gentry and Morris the most important. 

 

The committee was also updated on Busses parking in the C-1 lot when bringing students from surrounding area schools to events in the Setzer Center. It was noted that the event planners have been informed that busses were NOT to park in C-1 after delivering passengers to the Setzer Center.  After drop off the busses are to park in the A-2 or A-5 athletic lots.  The bus drivers can be notified by cell phone when the attendees are ready for pick up.  Diane Drawhorn asked the Police to monitor Busses parking in C-1 and have the Campus Safety Officers tell the buss drivers to move out of C-1 and park in A-2 or A-5.
