  • Master of Music in Clarinet Performance, University of North Texas
  • Bachelor of Music Education, McNeese State University

Jennifer Iles teaches clarinet and woodwind techniques at Lamar. She serves as second clarinetist with the Symphony of Southeast Texas and clarinetist with Portable Master Pieces, a nine-piece, Wyoming-based radio orchestra. She also performs with the Brazos Valley Symphony in Bryan, Texas, and the Lake Charles Symphony in Louisiana.

While completing her doctorate at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Dr. Iles served as Acting Second Clarinet with the Las Vegas Philharmonic and performed with groups such as Opera Las Vegas, the Nevada Ballet, the Nevada Pops, and the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society.

In 2013, she won the UNLV Concerto Competition performing Scott McAllister’s X-Concerto. She has also performed as principal and bass clarinetist with the North Texas Wind Symphony.

Before joining the faculty at Lamar, Dr. Iles taught elementary music at Samuel Walker Houston Elementary and managed private lesson studios in Conroe ISD, Montgomery ISD, Frisco ISD, and Lewisville ISD.

Her devotion to music education influenced her dissertation, "The Changing Role of the Bass Clarinet: Support for its Integration into the Modern Clarinet Studio,” which includes a suggested curriculum incorporating pedagogy for both soprano and bass clarinet.

She has presented her research and served as guest clinician at multiple regional institutions including McNeese State University, Louisiana College and Northwestern University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
