The spirit of curiosity and innovation is alive and thriving as high school students across Southeast Texas gathered for the annual Project Engineer Camp from July 17 to July 21.
The camp hosted by Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s College of Engineering provides a unique and hands-on learning experience for high school students who harbor a fascination for engineering.
“Project Engineer is a good opportunity for students to work as a team and design robots and compete in a friendly competition,” Project Engineering Intern Brynn Baker said. “As a former summer program counselor, it was rewarding to return this year as a judge and see each student engaged in STEM activities.”
Under the guidance of LU student mentors, campers explored all aspects of Â鶹ÊÓƵ Engineering, visiting different department labs to learn about the various disciplines and research opportunities available to LU engineering students.
"It's amazing to me to be able to see new and returning campers come back year after year and see how they apply their knowledge to STEM,” Lead Project Engineer Counselor, Christine Osborne said.
Beyond the technical aspects, the camp also emphasizes soft skills like communication, teamwork, and leadership. Campers engage in group discussions, presentations, and interactive workshops, enhancing their ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
“The imagination behind this year's robots was incredible as every team rose to the challenge, using their collective knowledge and skills to build winning robots,” Osborne said. “The campers and counselors had a blast, and I can't wait until next year.”
