The proclamation – read by city council member Audwin Samuel – highlighted the relationship 鶹Ƶ has with Southeast Texas and the impact the institution has on the community.

“Throughout the twentieth century, 鶹Ƶ has served Southeast Texas in a strategic, relevant, and sustainable way. Our founders wanted education that produced leaders for this region, and they succeeded,” Samuel said. “Today, 鶹Ƶ is a thriving boomtown of knowledge with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students that create a campus culture that’s committed to student engagement and success and to the achievement of research and relevance that energizes economic development locally, nationally, and around the world.”

鶹Ƶ President Dr. Jaime Taylor received the proclamation, and reinforced LU’s commitment to serving Southeast Texas in the future.

“The centennial celebration is a great opportunity to look back over the last one hundred years and see how Beaumont and 鶹Ƶ have worked together and continue to grow upon that over the next one hundred years,” Taylor said.
