JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing welcomes Dr. Joseph Tacy as director

Â鶹ÊÓƵ proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Joseph Tacy as the new Director of the JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing after a nationwide search.  Dr. Joseph Tacy

“We are fortunate that Dr. Joe Tacy will be leading the JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing,” Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Dr. Lynn Maurer said. “He comes to Lamar with extensive experience in nursing, teaching, and administration, as well as higher education. The Nursing faculty and students chose him for his knowledge and expertise in finance, degree and curriculum oversight, student success, and overall cutting-edge nursing practices. I look forward to working with Dr. Tacy as he moves the Dishman School of Nursing forward as the premier Nursing program in Texas and beyond.” 

 Dr. Tacy holds a Ph.D. in Nursing from The University of Texas at Tyler, an MSN in Nursing Education from James Madison University, a bachelor's degree in Regents Studies from West Virginia University, and an associate in nursing from Davis and Elkins College. His diverse educational background reflects his dedication to a comprehensive approach to nursing education. 

With a foundation in telemetry medical-surgical, orthopedic, and administrative experiences, Dr. Tacy has devoted numerous years to teaching in both undergraduate and graduate programs at University of Mississippi Medical Center. His expertise spans various domains, including contemporary issues, informatics, health assessment, health policy, and clinical applications.  

 “I was drawn to Â鶹ÊÓƵ because the university, college, and school missions resonate with who I am as a person, my passion for diverse populations, and my spirit of caring,” Dr. Tacy said. “Particularly, the College of Arts and Sciences’ strategic plan includes engaged learning and inclusive excellence; I highly value these two endeavors. I believe my skills and abilities can help the mission of the institution and School of Nursing.” 

With a strategic focus on innovation, Dr. Tacy outlined his vision for the LU School of Nursing, emphasizing its role as an innovative leader for Southeast Texas and beyond. 
 
“My vision for the School of Nursing is to be an innovative leader for Southeast Texas in nursing education, scholarship, and practice, as well as in the state and nation, and to be known for quality programs and outstanding care for the communities we serve,” Dr. Tacy said.
