Â鶹ÊÓƵ has announced the establishment of the Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown Scholarship, thanks to the generosity of donor Stephen "Doc" Watson. This scholarship, created in honor of the legendary Grammy Award-winning musician from southeast Texas, will support students pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Performance with a focus on instrumental music.
The scholarship is specifically designed for sophomore students who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recipients will be selected by a university scholarship committee based on these criteria.
The scholarship is initially funded on an annual basis, with plans to build toward an endowed scholarship to ensure long-term support for Â鶹ÊÓƵ's music students.
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, known for his mastery of a wide range of musical styles including jazz, swing, blues, country, and Cajun, left a lasting legacy in the world of American music.
