The Department of Political Science has been deeply enriched by the life and service of Congressman Jack Brooks. Congressman Brooks endowed the Jack Brooks Chair in Government and Public Service as well as the Jack Brooks Scholarship Program. The Brooks Scholarship Program has allowed countless undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to study, research, and publish in the areas of public service, community leadership, and public policy.
The goal of the chair is to contribute to the community and region in education, research and community service in many fields.
The Jack Brooks Chair funds a scholar-researcher as a member of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ faculty to enhance the educational experience of students. The chair engages in public policy research and publication, teaches undergraduate courses and graduate seminars and organizes conferences of local and state policymakers.

The Jack Brooks Conference on Government and Public Service provides a forum that brings together community and political leaders from across Southeast Texas. The conference serves as an opportunity for leaders and the public in our region to share knowledge and experiences that will enrich our community.
The goal of the Brooks Conference is to promote the sharing of information, ideas and discussion of important issues facing our region. It offers a unique opportunity for civic and political leaders from across the region to discuss policy initiatives, goals and strategies for enhancing Southeast Texas.
