Faculty Affiliates of the Center for History and Culture of Southeast Texas and the Upper Gulf Coast at Â鶹ÊÓƵ consist of a multi-disciplinary group of scholars, artists, and educators whose specialties intersect with our mission to foster research, creativity, and education for our region. Faculty Affiliate status is open to all Â鶹ÊÓƵ faculty members in any discipline whose teaching, creative, and scholarly endeavors address any aspect of the histories and cultures of Southeast Texas and the greater Gulf regions.

Benefits

  • The Center supports a dynamic community of scholars and teachers who share experiences, provide mentorship, and foster interdisciplinary exchange.
  • The Center organizes public programs, symposia, and student workshops that foster communication and innovation across disciplines.
  • The Center facilitates, amplifies, and provides a public-facing platform for Affiliate research and teaching activities through programs, research funding, press releases, and social media.
  • The Center provides information about funding and fellowship opportunities, including its own research support for faculty, students, and public scholars.

Opportunities

  • Attend and encourage participation in Center programs.
  • Provide periodic updates about publications, awards, and fellowships relevant to the Center’s mission.
  • Serve on fellowship and award committees, moderate events, and/or serve as a mentor for the undergraduate and graduate researchers.
  • Acknowledge the Center in conference papers and published work that received support from the Center.

Apply to Become an Affiliate

Lamar faculty members interested in becoming affiliates should send the following information to director Jimmy L. Bryan Jr. (jlbryan@lamar.edu) by October 15, 2023.
  • An email or cover letter (1 page) expressing interest in becoming a Faculty Affiliate; outlining your research, creative, and/or teaching activities related to our region; and describing how your involvement might contribute to the Center’s mission.
  • A current CV
The Center Director will review the materials sent by the prospective Faculty Affiliate member and distribute these to the Advisory Board for review. Faculty Affiliates are appointed for three-year terms and membership may be renewed at the discretion of the Advisory Board.
