Mel Ervin, Instructor

mcervin@lamar.edu

Hi! Welcome to University Studies!

I'm Mel Ervin. I’ve been part of the Applied Arts & Sciences (now University Studies) Department since August of 2009.

I look forward to “walking” with you through UVST 3301: Lifelong Learning and Portfolio Development, UVST 3102: Narrative for Prior Experiential or Technical Credit, and/or UVST 4301: Senior Seminar. Although our courses are exclusively online, we strive for academic experiences much like you would encounter in an on-campus course.

I'm married to my best friend and wonderful wife Cindy. We are blessed with two amazing children (a daughter and a son), a wonderful daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters who are the lights of our lives. I enjoy time with my family, reading, and movies.

I’ve been involved in adult education more than thirty-five years. During that time, I’ve worn a variety of “hats” as a teacher, administrator, and counselor.

My graduate studies include education, counseling, psychology, theology, philosophy, and English.

I'm looking forward to working with you!

Dr. Theresa Mayper, Instructor

She has taught online and in the classroom for over twenty years, including courses in Freshman Writing, American and World Literature, Developmental Writing, Creative Writing, Freshman Skills, Lifelong Learning & Portfolio Development, Narrative for Technical and Prior Experiential Learning, Critical Thinking, and Technical Writing.

Her research interests include understanding quality assurance in the online learning environment, adult learners’ needs, learning theory, and technical communication.

Outside of the classroom, she enjoys reading, traveling, walking, and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
