3.2: Verification

Students selected for verification are encouraged to complete and submit all required paperwork to the Office of Student Aid in a timely manner. You can view and submit required documents through Student Forms.  Consequences for not completing verification task may result in the delay of funding, as well as possible limited, and/or loss of funds.  To allow time for accurate processing we encourage you to complete the verification process as soon as possible but no later than two weeks before your last date of enrollment for the 2024-2025 award year.  Verification is complete once the school has all the requested documentation and a valid FAFSA®.

The priority date to submit verification documents is July 1, 2024.  The Office of Student Aid (OSA) will process verification documentation in the order received. However, the verification review process can take up to 3 weeks to complete during peak seasons. Delays in your filing the FAFSA® and submitting accurate verification documentation will delay the processing of your financial aid.

If you are selected for verification, we will notify you of the documentation required via Student Forms.  If OSA finds differences between the data reported on your FAFSA® and the verification information you submitted, OSA will submit corrections to the FAFSA® Processing Center.  Unless instructed by OSA, do not make corrections to your FAFSA® during the verification process as this may cause delays.

If selected for verification after receiving financial aid, you will have two weeks to submit the required documentation. If there are less than two weeks remaining in the semester, you must submit your documentation as soon as possible to ensure enough time for processing.  If the documentation is not received within the allotted timeframe or if received and corrections are required to your FAFSA resulting in a change to your SAI that changes your eligibility for grants already received, OSA will adjust your financial aid package, and you will be required to pay any funds owed back to LU because of the aid adjustment.

Adjustments to your Student Aid Index (SAI) and/or your financial aid package can be viewed by logging in to Self-Serve Banner and looking at your Financial Aid Award for the specific aid year.

In the event that you are suspected of participating in fraud or other criminal misconduct in connection with application for Title IV, HEA program assistance, the information will be referred to the Director of Student Aid. If after review, the Director is unable to resolve the discrepancies or otherwise assure fraud has not taken place, the Director will consult with the Student Affairs Office and then the Director of Student Aid will refer the case to the U.S. Department of Education's Office of the Inspector General (OIG).
